In short, Eduardo Pais Pooch's fellowship entails the following:
This fellowship focuses on exploring the use of artificial intelligence techniques in medical imaging to improve the diagnosis of prostate cancer. MRI-guided targeted biopsies have advanced prostate cancer diagnosis by enabling precise targeting of suspicious areas, resulting in better detection rates and fewer invasive procedures. Yet, current methods can be inconsistent due to differences in image quality and readers' experience. Our project aims to develop models that can provide a more consistent and objective medical image analysis, focusing on biopsy planning, to reduce the risks of unnecessary procedures while preserving diagnostic accuracy. Our collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) will bring together expertise and access to diverse data, ensuring that the developed models are robust and can be applied in different clinical settings.
